Stathis - and the restaurant business

A group of us checked out the relatively new Stathis restaurant which has opened nearby, and were very satisfied.    It's Greek, and we had a few starters to share, which were all great, and the various mains were, on the whole, very good.  Those who had the whole snapper liked it very much, and the pot roast beef was not bad, either.

The service was friendly and helpful, and there was a good range of choices on the menu.  Prices were pretty reasonable, too.

Stathis is quite new, having taken the space formerly occupied by the short-lived Champagne Charlie (the space had been vacant for many months).   It appears to have quite an elaborate fit-out.   I wonder about the economics of the restaurants in our area.  There are so many of them, and increasingly, as we walk around in the evenings, the crowds don't seem to be there.  Something Italian has given up the lease on its second dining area and so is now half its former size, and Rossini often seems to have vacant tables in the front section even on nights that would normally be considered moderately busy- not something that would have occurred in times past.

Half of Something Italian is "for lease"
